Description: POSITION PURPOSE: Supports transformation efforts for school improvement within assigned schools targeting schools with TSI, ATSI., Priority, CSI, and underperforming school designations; provides leadership for school improvement work and tailored coaching support around curriculum, instruction, and assessments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Stay current provide SCDE information and policies with school and/or district personnel.
  • Build the capacity of instructional leadership teams to foster a culture consistent with the school’s purpose and direction, which is based on shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning.
  • Supports challenging, equitable educational programs and learning experiences for all students.
  • Build the capacity of school leaders and faculty to engage in the continuous improvement process that provides clear direction for improving conditions supporting teaching and learning based on examination of multiple data points, best practices, and external review recommendations.
  • Provide coaching, training, mentoring and critical feedback as needed to school leaders and teachers.
  • Assist, support, and coach leadership teams.
  • Foster collaboration and collegiality among the staff through team building, co-teaching, professional development, and collaborative planning.
  • Build improvement structures to increase academic capacity, teacher leadership, and sustained change.
  • Monitor and support the improvement of instructional and leadership practices that ensure teacher success, including overall Assisting, Developing, and Evaluating Professional Teaching (ADEPT) processes and feedback to teachers.
  • Provide guidance for collecting, analyzing, and tracking data from a variety of sources to make informed decisions.
  • Provide leadership and support in the design and implementation of improvement planning, assessment, and data analysis.
  • Ensure curriculum, instruction, and assessments are monitored and adjusted systematically at the district and/or school levels in response to data from multiple assessments of student learning and an examination of professional practice.
  • Work with teachers and administrators to identify areas of growth that will enhance their skill sets.
  • Work with schools to ensure instruction is challenging, aligned to current standards, and meets the needs of all students.
  • Attend requested meetings and conferences at the local and state levels to connect with stakeholders.
  • Collaborated with other departments, areas, and schools on projects related to school improvement.
  • Supports the successful alignment and implementation of school and district improvement plans with the Comprehensive K-12 Academic Plans, particularly those with the goal of creating high performing schools.
  • Stays informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in school improvement and interprets these matters for appropriate personnel as necessary.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PERFORMANCE EFFECTIVENESS CRITERIA: In addition to the employee being responsible for each of the essential functions listed herein, periodic and special reports to the Board and to other entities will be provided regarding the impact of this position with respect to progress toward annually established District and Divisional goals and objectives for, but not necessarily limited to, the following areas: 1) Student Performance, 2) Customer Service, 3) Fiscal Accountability and Responsibility, 4) Process Efficiencies and Improvements, and 5) Employee Learning and Growth.ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Director of Accountability, Director of Special Revenue, or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
  • Preferred – Master’s Degree or higher.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have completed a program of study in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Successful experience in curriculum development and/or implementation in one or more academic areas.
  • Knowledge of academic standards, assessment, and alignment.
  • Successful teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of the educational and achievement needs of regular and special program students.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and implementation of professional development models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
