  • Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or epidemiologic studies or surveys.
  • Provide advice on the use of data science tools, methods, and statistical learning models to collect, link, process, code, classify, and analyze public health surveillance, research, and administrative data.
  • Serve as an Epidemiologist consultant for a public health program or project where technical and other characteristics pose previously encountered difficulties in carrying out the program.
  • Participate in the syntheses of social science and epidemiologic data to be applied toward designing effective prevention programs and practice guidelines.

Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the at the time the degree was obtained.Minimum Qualifications:GS-11
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: assisting with epidemiological studies and disease data surveillance used to inform public health programs and policies.

3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Combination of experience and education: Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.GS-12
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting epidemiological studies and disease data surveillance used to inform public health programs and policiesExperience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management’s discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval.
