Cochlear is the most recognized brand in hearing health care.About the roleAs Cochlear continues to grow and service our customers, we are seeking a Legal Counsel, Commercial & Gov’t Services to join our legal team in our North American head office in Lone Tree, Colorado. This role offers a flexible hybrid work environment with a combination of in-office and remote work from home.To be successful in this role you’ll serve as Cochlear North America’s front-line attorney on matters involving Cochlear’s products and services while demonstrating subject matter expertise in substantive legal areas. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, and as a contributing member to the broader Legal Team, you’ll work collaboratively with a variety of different teams responsible for furthering Cochlear’s technology solutions, including marketing, operations, sales, IT, clinical, and health economics.Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as front-line attorney advising Cochlear’s product managers, operations specialists, and marketing and sales teams who develop, launch, and improve Cochlear’s products
  • Provide in-house expertise for legal matters involving Cochlear’s products and services, including but not limited to information security agreements, licensing terms, and HIPAA-related transactions
  • First point of contact for legal matters involving government services support, including but not limited to SAM registration, FAR Regulation compliance, government contracts, and compliance
  • Oversee federal government contract compliance, including the review and negotiation of government contracts and subcontracts; and assist with the preparation and submission of documentation required by federal regulatory authorities
  • Identifies and resolves wide-ranging legal issues, including privacy, data security, government services requirements and compliance, litigation risk, and licensing, working directly with business partners and customers

Key RequirementsTo add value to Cochlear in this role you’ll be able to meet and demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in your application and at interview:

  • Licensed to practice law in the U.S., license to practice in Colorado, or willingness to obtain single-client certification within 12 months.
  • 5-7 years of experience with a law firm, in-house, or a combination of both, practicing in a regulated field such as healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences, software, manufacturing, or technology.
  • Strong preference for at least 3 years of experience with federal contractor requirements and compliance
  • Preference for at least 3 years of experience working with legal and enterprise technologies such as contract lifecycle management, matter management, workflow automation, document management, knowledge management, and eBilling.
  • Certification in information privacy (CIPP/US/C/E) preferred.
  • Effective organizational, problem solving, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues and formulate plans to address them.

  • The Target Salary Range for this role is $150,000 – $165,000 per year based upon experience as well as an annual bonus of 15% of base salary. Compensation offered to candidate may vary based on work experience, education and/or skill level.
