Description: Description :SEIU NORM GLEICHMAN LAW FELLOWSHIPThe Legal Department of the Service Employees International Union has at least one opening for a law fellow, starting in September 2025. The SEIU Law Fellowship Program was established to introduce law graduates to a broad range of legal work within an international union, and offers an excellent opportunity for new lawyers to work with experienced union-side lawyers on a variety of cutting-edge issues related to the advancement of workers’ interests. The program was renamed the Norm Gleichman Fellowship to honor the life of Deputy General Counsel Norm Gleichman, who was a dedicated mentor to SEIU law fellows.SEIU is a progressive, dynamic, and growing labor organization of over two million members in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada, united by the belief in the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide. We are dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families and creating a more just and humane society. Attorneys in SEIU’s Legal Department engage in innovative lawyering to further the organization’s interests in organizing non-union workers, improving working conditions for all workers, engaging in political action, and achieving social justice. This includes legal work on a wide range of litigation, regulatory and legislative matters, and policy and advising on union governance issues, organizing campaigns, and other legal work in furtherance of working people, and their communities.The Gleichman Law Fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in most areas of the legal department’s work. While each fellowship experience varies according to the work of the department, the Fellow can expect to be involved in at least some of the following types of work: litigation to enforce the labor and employment rights of union members; handling matters before the National Labor Relations Board; drafting amicus briefs in support of workers’ rights issues before the NLRB and appellate courts; advice and assistance to staff organizers on organizing campaigns; involvement in policy and legislative initiatives; and participation in SEIU’s political program.The Fellowship is based in Washington, DC, and is for a term of up to two years. Law school graduates, judicial clerks, and third-year law students are welcome to apply.
