- Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
- Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings
- Coordinate law office activity, including the drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers
- Organize our case filing systems to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate, and other administrative duties as needed
- Assist lawyers in preparing legal documentation, pleadings, and correspondence including correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits
- Manage your time to ensure that billable hour targets (120 per month) are met or exceeded
- Communicate with clients, experts, and other parties to provide updates and gather information; answer basic questions about the status of the case
- Monitor case progress, deadlines, and important time frames/milestones
- Draft documents, indexes, and chronologies; prepare marital settlement agreements; draft pleadings, motions, and court documents; fill out legal forms; write reports, etc.
- Help attorneys prepare cases for mediations/hearings/trials
- Manage discovery: prepare and organize discovery and responses to discovery demands
- Research laws and judicial decisions about current as well as past cases
- Assist attorneys in the courtroom as needed
- Enter billable and non-billable time in the case management system contemporaneously
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of legal service experience under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting
- Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired
- Talented communicator and writer
- Must have great time-management skills, and organizational skills
- A Paralegal will have completed a course of study offered by a college or university, especially for Paralegals, and will possess a certification as a trained paralegal
- A Paralegal should have experience in a law firm. Experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant is especially pertinent, and candidates with this background will be given preference
Additionally, you must possess the following skills:
- Ability to multitask
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
- People Skills/Customer Service—A Legal Assistant should have excellent people skills with the confidence to address initial client complaints and soothe angry clients

- Time Management
- Ability to work in a team with Legal Assistants and Attorneys
