Description: Description :SCO Family of Services (SCO) seeks a Law Intern for an 8-week position, to work closely with its Chief Legal Counsel and staff in the Legal Department in the summer , We offer a $5,000 stipend for this internship. SCO seeks a law student who is completing the first or second year of law school by the Summer of 2025. Start and end dates for this position are flexible* (June 23-August 11)The selected candidate will be someone who is interested in public service, a career in public interest, with excellent research and writing skills, and strong intellectual curiosity. The candidate should also have an interest in not-for-profit law, family law, health law, or an area of the law that overlaps with SCO’s mission to serve New York’s most vulnerable children and families.This position will be based in SCO’s Long Island headquarters, but some or all aspects of the internship may be remote. We are willing to be flexible regarding location if it is more convenient for the Summer 2025 Law Intern to work out of one of SCO’s offices in Brooklyn or Queens.The Summer 2025 Law Intern will work closely with in-house counsel and members of the executive team and staff to gain an understanding of the inner workings of the Legal Department of a large not-for-profit that delivers innovative and diverse services to New York’s most vulnerable children and families. You will learn what it is like to be an in-house attorney for a not-for-profit. In this role, your duties will include supporting the tightly knit Legal & Compliance Department team in matters such as: Legal Research & Writing; Litigation & Risk Management; Board Governance; Contract Review; Work with Outside Counsel.To apply for this position, please submit the following by January 15, 2024: 1) a cover letter that describes your interest in SCO’s Summer 2025 Law Internship program and highlights any experience and background that demonstrates your commitment to public interest work and/or public service; 2) a resume; 3) your current academic transcript; and 4) a writing sample (no more than 5 pages long) that showcases your research and writing skills.
