As such, the University is seeking a full-time Open Faculty Rank of Art History The ideal candidate will be a successful scholar, an inspiring teacher, and an experienced builder of programs. The position will report to the Director of the Allbritton Art Institute.About the Allbritton Art Institute: As a partner with the University of St. Thomas, the Allbritton Art Institute creates a unique center for the study of art history and will serve its students and the broader community. Institute educational objectives include offering classes, lectures, library holdings, and opportunities for students to study fine art in the great museums of the world. Strong partnerships with renowned museums and universities in Houston, including the MFAH, the Menil Collection, the Glassell School of Art and other arts institutions are integral to the Institute’s mission to provide opportunities for students to study original works of art.The Allbritton Art Institute was established in 1997 by Joe and Barbara Allbritton to promote the appreciation and comprehensive study of the artists and art movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with emphasis on Impressionism and Post- Impressionism.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe University is seeking an art historian with a record of successful teaching and publication. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to build on-campus Institute programs for this newly-formed partnership between the University of St. Thomas and the Allbritton Art Institute. The successful candidate should have a significant degree of expertise and interest in nineteenth- and twentieth-century art history (particularly Impressionism and Post-Impressionism) to fulfil Institute objectives.The successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses in Impressionism and Post- Impression and will be fluent in a multidisciplinary approach to the study of Art History that includes social, cultural, and philosophical contexts at both undergraduate and masters levels. The candidate will be expected to teach “Survey of Art I & II,” as well as the fine arts course within the university’s core, “Art and Contemplation.”The duties and responsibilities of this position require the highest standards of commitment to student success, collegiality, and commitment to the mission of the university.Education and Experience Qualifications

  • A completed Doctoral Degree from a regionally accredited university.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Must have competency in an online teaching environment
  • Interested candidates must provide a comprehensive CV, cover letter, evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence, and three professional letters of recommendation. Candidates should also submit a statement demonstrating an understanding of the university’s Catholic mission and a firm commitment to advance it.
