Description: DescriptionAssistant Director of Law I (s)Examples of DutiesOverview: The City of Cleveland is seeking an enthusiastic Real Estate Attorney to provide expert guidance on real estate matters for the Department of Economic Development, Department of Community Development, and for general real estate matters involving the City of Cleveland. This Assistant Director of Law will play a key role in managing transactions, drafting and negotiating agreements, and ensuring compliance with state laws and municipal ordinances. This position will serve as a vital liaison among departments, facilitating interdepartmental coordination and strategic alignment. The ideal candidate will contribute to the city’s real estate initiatives, enhancing community development and economic growth through effective legal support and collaborationKey Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on real estate matters, including purchase and sale agreements, title work, lease execution and oversight.
  • Draft and negotiate development and financing agreements, ensuring alignment with city goals and compliance with municipal requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration across departments, managing significant deal flow and promoting process standardization.
  • Conduct complex and routine analyses of state laws and municipal ordinances related to city real estate initiatives.
  • Research and draft legal opinions, legislation, and legislative requirements to support various initiatives.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as required to support the city’s real estate objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, be in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court
  • Minimum of four (4) years of transactional experience in a law firm or public sector entity focused on real estate.
  • Strong drafting, research, and writing skills, along with excellent verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven project management experience and the ability to effectively communicate with clients and the general public.
  • Knowledge of real estate matters, including easements, encroachments, development agreements, license agreements, and disposition and acquisition procedures. Familiarity with land use planning and zoning is a plus.

Salary: $75000 – 106836 per year
