Description: Position SummaryThe Legislative Advocate of Federal Government Affairs assists to influence key decision-makers on legislative and regulatory policy matters impacting credit unions in California and Nevada. This position plays a critical role in advocating for credit union priorities by supporting federal lobbying efforts; monitoring the legislative and regulatory landscape affecting credit unions; advising policy development; and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders fostering effective grassroots engagement and political action.This “work from home flexible” role requires attendance at meetings with stakeholders and occasional travel to Washington, DC.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Support the SVP of Federal Government Affairs in executing strategies to advance federal legislative and advocacy initiatives:a.Analyze legislative developments and identify their potential impact on stakeholders, providing actionable insights.b.Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to communicate organizational priorities to policymakers.c.Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials and their staff to support effective advocacy efforts.d.Coordinate participation in advocacy events and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.e.Provide regular updates and strategic insights on policy developments and legislative activities.f.Monitor news outlets and industry reports to inform advocacy strategies and maintain awareness of key issues.2. Support stakeholder engagement and advocacy programs to enhance organizational impact:a.Contribute to initiatives that strengthen grassroots advocacy efforts and amplify stakeholder influence.b.Provide strategic support for the planning and execution of:i.The organization’s annual flagship advocacy conferences, including program development, logistics, and stakeholder engagement.ii.Year-round meetings with legislative offices to foster relationships, advance advocacy goals, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.iii.Regional engagement events and advocacy-focused initiatives to maintain active member participation and awareness.iv.Opportunities to enhance legislative and regulatory understanding through member-focused educational sessions and briefings.c.Facilitate the development and promotion of community-focused policy discussions and events in collaboration with stakeholders and policymakers.d.Participate in outreach efforts and engagement activities across key regions in California and Nevada, fostering connections between stakeholders and policymakers.e.Provide updates and support to stakeholders on advocacy initiatives, ensuring consistent communication and alignment with organizational goals.f.Represent the organization through public speaking engagements and participation in advocacy-related events.g.Assist in preparing materials and coordinating logistics for advocacy days and other member-focused initiatives.3.Political Action Supporta.Assist in PAC-related events.b.Attend candidate fundraisers and check drops; provide support with coordinating logistics related to events.4.Additional Dutiesa.Write articles for various League communications and draft correspondences.b.Assist in grassroots advocacy projects and collaborate effectively with other associates to produce the highest quality results for members.5.Embrace our core values of: Members First, Advocate, Excellence, Listen/Learn/Innovate, and One Team.6.Other duties as assigned.Skills Requirement:

  • Proven experience in supporting legislative and advocacy strategies to advance organizational priorities.
  • Experience in planning and executing large-scale advocacy events, including preparation of materials and logistics coordination.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with elected officials, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex policy issues through written materials, public speaking, and direct engagement.
  • Skilled in tracking legislative developments and providing actionable insights to inform advocacy efforts.
  • Ability to manage and balance multiple projects, events, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for organizing, tracking, and communicating advocacy initiatives.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills to support effective advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a dynamic work environment.

Educational Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in political science, communication, economics, public relations, law, or journalism or comparable real-world experience.Experience Requirements:Minimum 3 years of legislative or similar experience.
