Description: With our Agency’s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Center, 2100 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston, SC 29414.Responsibilities for this Position Title include but are not limited to:

  • Under limited supervision, provides clinical assessments and therapeutic services for children, adolescents, adults, and their families who have interacted with local law enforcement agencies. This position will serve children, adults, and families who have witnessed or experienced violence or have other mental health needs. This clinician will be embedded at the Mt Pleasant Police Department.
  • Provides quality person-centered care while embedded within the assigned police department as demonstrated by Evidence-based interventions.
  • Documentation is reflective of the quality care expected of this position to include Collaborative/Documentation/ timely record keeping.
  • Demonstrates recognition of the importance of collaboration and teamwork within the police department, SCDMH, and the community.
  • Ensures patient functionality is measured by the DLA20

State Minimum Requirements:
A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements:
A Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by SCDMH.Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.Knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior adjustment techniques and mental health. Knowledge of methods, priciples and practices of clinical and crisis counseling services Knowledge of trauma informed care. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws or regulations pertaining to social service programs. Ability to work collaboratively with law enforcment. Ability to engage key stakeholders and community partners. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives in crisis situations. Ability to effectively plan, coordinate, and manage complex assessment and treatment interventions in community settings If any of the essential job duties fall below the “Meets” level, at any time during the rating period the disciplinary process may be initiated.
