Description: The Bywater Institute’s mission is to advance applied, interdisciplinary research and community engagement initiatives around coastal resilience and the urban environment. The Research Scientist I position will support the research of the Director of the Tulane Bywater Institute in the fields of hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, water resources engineering, and/or socio-hydrology. The incumbent will work in a multidisciplinary environment supporting research staff, faculty, and the director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience modeling and studying water resources
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to write peer reviewed publications and present at public meetings
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally up to 2 weeks per year

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Terminal Degree (Ph.D.) in geosciences or water related civil engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional post-graduate experience in geosciences or water related civil engineering
  • Experience writing grant proposals
  • Ability to collaborate with nontraditional stakeholders and science end users
  • Breadth in computer programming skills
