GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder minimal supervision, responds to complex scientific inquiries and resolves method/instrument issues. The successful candidate will conduct research activities and take a leading role in method development and high throughput analyses using whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics technologies applied in varied research and development settings to detect, differentiate, evaluate functional capacity, growth conditions and more, of food microbiomes, human gut microbiomes, soil and plant microbiomes. The successful candidate will also take a lead role in drafting science papers/presentations for scientific and professional meetings and assist in communicating research findings to University and Government stakeholders and industry members. Candidate with experience microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, nutritional biochemistry, molecular biology, is preferred.The salary range for this role is $55,000 – $60,000 and is commensurate with experience.COMMUNICATIONSExcellent technical writing skills and initiative to publish research. Excellent verbal skills for presenting research at scientific meetings in oral and written format. Seeks input of others to resolve minor problems.
CUSTOMER SERVICEEngages with academic, governmental and industry partners to understand their issues and concerns with regard to human health, including food safety and can conduct training exercises on the role of high throughput sequencing strategies for varied applications. Demonstrates self-initiative in drafting papers/presentations. Develops internal status reports/updates in full draft status. Strives to exceed customer expectations.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge & SkillsWorks with minimal supervision, responds to complex queries and is pro-active in seeking a solution. Has good software skills in Word and Excel plus very good attention to detail in conducting and documenting scientific notebooks and papers. Has basic computer programming and bioinformatic skills.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITYMay mentor up to 3 students and junior staff on small projects.
Physical Environment and Requirements50% of time in lab and the balance in an office environment.May lift up to 10 lbs. on occasion and will do repetitive motions (up to 20% of time) in data entry and manipulating instruments.
