Description: POSITION OVERVIEWLad Lake seeks a dedicated, compassionate teacher to join our trauma-sensitive school community. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity and a love for learning while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment. They must understand the impact of trauma on learning and behavior and incorporate strategies that promote resilience, social and emotional regulation, and student success.ESSENTIAL DUTIESInstruction and Curriculum Development

  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons through best practices aligned with state standards and the school’s curriculum.
  • Incorporate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in lessons.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with trauma histories or learning challenges.
  • Maintain up-to-date grades and student academic evaluations.

Trauma-Sensitive Practices

  • Foster a supportive classroom culture that emphasizes safety, trust, and empathy.
  • Recognize and respond to signs of trauma and stress in students with sensitivity and appropriate interventions.
  • Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies and collaborate with school staff to support students’ well-being.
  • Participate in developing and monitoring student education plans.

Classroom Management

  • Establish clear expectations and routines that provide structure and predictability. In addition, the teacher will implement classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct in a positive and supportive manner; provide guidance, and counseling to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; and make referrals for assistance where appropriate.
  • Use restorative practices and positive behavior supports to address conflicts and promote accountability.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students to create a sense of belonging.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Confer with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship to provide guidance and evaluation while encouraging student achievement. Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to trauma-informed education, SEL, and best practices in teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Educational Background- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Licensure- Wisconsin teaching certificate or a substitute license (preferred).
  • Prior teaching experience (preferred); Previous experience working with emotionally and behaviorally disabled (EBD) students or vulnerable adolescent populations; 2 to 3 years of successful classroom behavior management experience.

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed educational practices and SEL.
  • Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must deal with students positively and confidently; be equitable when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population.
  • Able to adapt to change, be flexible, and be confident.
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills, effective behavior management techniques, and exhibit good judgment.
