Posting TextLOCATION: Environmental Health & SafetyStarting Hourly Rate: $22.52+ per hour, depending upon education and experience, L2POSITION PURPOSE: To provide a safe and secure campus for students, faculty, staff and the public; and to support and enforce State and Federal laws and the policies of the university. Performs other work as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:

  • vehicle and firearm safety;
  • law enforcement principles and procedures;
  • first aid principles;
  • interviewing and interrogation techniques;
  • university regulations and city ordinances;
  • state and local criminal and motor vehicle laws.

Ability to:

  • interpret and enforce state and local laws and university regulations;
  • walk, run and stand for extended periods of time;
  • enforce situations analytically, impartially, and objectively and to record pertinent information accurately and completely;
  • Successfully pass an extensive background investigation, oral board interview, medical physical and psychological examination;
  • successfully complete South Dakota Mines Police Field Training Program.

COMMENTS: Work hours are evenings; weekends and holidays are also required. This position requires a valid South Dakota driver’s license, current first aid and CPR cards, or must obtain within 60 days of employment. If an applicant is not a Certified SD LE Officer, they must attend policy academy, pass a written entrance examination, and attain the status of a Certified South Dakota Law Enforcement Officer within one year of start date. Exam is waived for SD Certified Officers.
